While nearly all of the County’s modern official records are available electronically at www.clayclerk.com, our historic hardcopy records are stored in the Clay County Archives at the renovated Old County Jail facility. Because most of these historically significant documents now have online indexes available here, the Archives has become a hub of information for genealogical enthusiasts and researchers of historical material.

The mission of the Clay County Archives is to effectively identify, organize and preserve records and artifacts of enduring value in various formats related to Clay County and its history. The Archives ensures the availability and accessibility of these records and artifacts entrusted to it for the use of both present and future generations. The Archives is committed to promoting programs and providing resources that increase public awareness of and appreciation for Clay County, Florida. Clay County Clerk of the Circuit Court Tara S. Visiting the Archives

We are located at the corner of Ferris Avenue (State Road 16) and Gratio Street in Green Cove Springs, Florida. Parking is ample and free. We are part of the Historic Triangle and our street address is 21 Gratio Place.

Visiting the Jail

The second oldest jail in Florida sits in the heart of historic Green Coves Springs, Florida. Huge oak trees covered with Spanish moss surround the old jail. The 1894 Old County Jail is also the home of the Clay County Archives.
